About Us
Created for the tropics and inspired by the grand romance of the Colonial era, our stores offer timeless designs created with the philosophy of comfort and effortless dressing for both men and women in mind. Our customers are well travelled, socially active and culturally aware.
We currently have 6 main lines: Classic, New Classic, Pure, Traveler, Adventurer, Travel & Yoga; each line offering a different story to suit various occasions of contemporary tropical lifestyle. In addition to the breadth of our collection, we are also known for our depth in sizes flattering figures of many shapes. Additionally our larger stores carry our Homes line, which range from soft furnishings to special large furniture pieces.
BritishIndia was founded by Pat Liew, a retail industry veteran with over 35 years of experience. Pat is currently our Group Chief Executive Officer, and helms the creative engine and soul of the company. Over the last 18 years, Pat has passionately built a fashion empire with her dedicated team who has been with her since the inception of the brand.

Our Chairman Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman is a Barrister-at-law and a member of the Judicial and Legal Service of the Government from 1962 and served as Malaysia Attorney General from 1980 to 1993. He is currently also the Chairman of Suruhanjaya Hak Asasi Malaysia, and is a former Chairman of Rothmans of Pall Mall (Malaysia) and Tan & Tan Developments Berhad. Additionally, he has served as a non-executive director of British American Tobacco (Malaysia) and Sime Darby Berhad (1998-2007); as well as directors of various publicly listed companies such as Alliance Merchant Bank Berhad, Alliance Capital Asset Management Sdn Bhd, Alliance Unit Trust Management Berhad, Alliance Merchant Berhad, and CYL Corporation Berhad.
Our Managing Director and co-Founder SH Yong co-founded BritishIndia with Pat Liew in 1994 and currently assumes the role of Head of Group, Finance. Prior to that, as General Manager of Metrojaya (leading retailer in Malaysia), he played a key role in building the business from 1976 to 1985, before listing the company in 1990. SH Yong holds an honours degree in Industrial Chemistry from Loughborough University of Technology in England.
Our Creative Director Alex Chan joined BritishIndia in 1999 as a Stylist and worked his way ranks up as Buyer, Designer, and Senior Designer. Alex completed his education at the Malaysian Institute of Arts (MIA) majoring in Graphics and Fashion Design.
