About Us
Our Story
Winery Philippines was first conceived in 2016 by a group of passionate wine lovers, who wanted to drastically improve access to good quality wine for Filipinos, as well as the way it is marketed and sold. Our goal is simple: to become the most trusted and popular wine supplier in the Philippines in ecommerce and on social media.
As an emerging wine market, there is a lot of interest in learning about and drinking great wine in the Philippines and we’re here to help. Although wine is not hard to find in the stores, restaurants or bars, access to good quality, boutique wines, and more importantly information and opportunities to really learn and get to know different wines are less well provided for. We saw the prices of wine are also quite high, due to expensive store rents and costs of doing business.
With Filipinos being heavy users of their phones and computers, we believe in using digital and social media to help introduce the pleasures of wine to a new generation of interested customers through our online wine store and community. We also know we can sell better wines at better prices, delivered direct to your door through an online only wine store.
So we decided to launch the Philippines first online only / social media community for passionate wine lovers and wine lovers to be. We focus on curating a fantastic collection of wine at value for money prices, while enabling our community of wine drinkers to learn about wine in a safe and fun environment.
We launched our online store in 2017 and have continued to develop its features and curated range of wine ever since.
We believe wine need not be pretentious or expensive. We believe good wine tastes as good on the beach with friends as it does in a 5-star luxury restaurant. We believe wine can pair beautifully with food in the Philippines. We believe in empowering our community to enjoy wine, through our online community, public events and other opportunities to learn about wine in Manila and beyond.
Our Wine
Our goal is to bring our customers and community the best possible quality of wine in the Philippines at the best possible price. We do this in a number of ways - and it all starts with how we select and source our range.
For us, quality comes first. Our team is fortunate to have a lot of experience in the wine industry internationally, and extensive tasting experience in many of the world’s top wine producing countries. We draw on this experience to select wines that are palatable, suited to the Philippines food and climate, and at a great price point. Upon landing new vintages of our wines, our panel of expert (and, importantly a few amateur!) palates taste test our wines to ensure they are drinking well when they first reach the Philippines and to enable us to curate and be able to offer wine information and pairing advice to our wine loving community.
Drinking great wine is not just about paying the highest price. Winery Philippines focuses on sourcing wines from regions and wineries that have excellent quality, but are a little less known. As a result they are available at better prices. For example: did you know that Australia’s Margaret River region produces red wine blends almost identical to those of Bordeaux, France? This classic blend comprises Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot varieties, many people cannot tell them apart in side by side blind tastings. The major difference is in the price! We source our red and white wines in far flung regions like Australia’s King Valley, Orange district, Rutherglen, or McLaren Vale. New Zealand’s Central Otago, or the Napa or Sonoma Valley’s in the United States. We’re adding new boutique suppliers to the range, so be sure to check back regularly to discover new wines!
We avoid working with big wine corporations who operate more as ‘brand managers’ for mass market or supermarket wines. Instead, we work directly with boutique wineries around the world, and with selected importers who share our commitment to quality, direct sourcing of great quality and value for money wines.
Some wines are made to be cellared, and others are meant to be consumed in the short term. While most of our wines will benefit from longer terms cellaring, we know not everyone has a cellar at home and deliberately focus on wines that are drinking well today. We keep a close eye on our wines and listen to our customer’s feedback. We don’t keep wine for sale if it’s getting beyond its peak. As a customer, you have a right to get a great bottle, drinking well for your money and we’re committed to providing it to you.
All our wines are kept in our air conditioned warehouse, and our online only model means we can ensure minimal handling and transport of the wines before they reach you. We predominantly stock wine in modern Stelvin bottle caps, which is superior for long term cellaring and eliminates the risk of wine corkage or oxidization, especially in the tropics.
